Week 6 - Poster Design
Before designing a poster we need to do researches on what topic/theme that we're going to use. Graphics , visual elements and image choices are also very important, where it need to be able to deliver massage to the viewers or audiences.
PRACTICAL / PROJECT
PROJECT 2A EXERCISE 1 - PHOTO MANIPULATION
For part one of the second project we were told to take a photo of our selves with the tripod that we have bought, then put it into the mansion image that were previously used in the practical session.
Progression
First I took a photo of myself with a tripod in an eye level as instructed. We were advised to took the photo with portrait mode in a plain background so it will be easier to be cut out. But turns out the photo quality that I took was not that good and kind of blurry.
Fig. 2.1 : Self photography
Starting with cutting out the subject from the background with quick selection tool, then dragging it to the Hearst Mansion image. Then doing some adjustment to the photograph and adding shadow behind it using brush tool. To make the shadow looks more realistic, I blurred it using gaussian blur and adjust the opacity. Next, I add my reflection onto the water and also doing some correction to the image. Finally, I apply the ripple effect to it to make it more real. Below are some screenshots of the process I've just mentioned : |

PROJECT 2A EXERCISE 2 (PART 1) - RECOLORING BLACK & WHITEIn this second part of task 2A, we were assigned to turn a black & white photo that have been given in the google classroom into a colored photo.

PROJECT 2A EXERCISE 2 (PART 2) - RECOLORING BLACK & WHITE (ADVANCED LEVEL)First of all, I started by extracting color from an image I found which I think will suit the model in B&W image well. Below are the colors that have been extracted :

PROJECT 2B - POSTER DESIGN
On the second part of the project we were assigned to do a poster design about mental health on how young student need more help and affected psychologically than physically during Covid 19
Topic Research
To be able to design this mental health theme poster, we need to do some researches about the topic. First of all, I asked myself on how am I mentally affected by this pandemic, then I write it down below:
> Ever since the pandemic started, I can say that my mental health is unstable. Many bad and good things happened in just a short time that they made me overthink and been anxious.
Next step is to search for information about how Covid-19 has affected people mental health, especially students.

Paragraph 1 :
195 students at a large public university in the United States to understand the effects of the pandemic on their mental health and well-being. The data were analyzed through quantitative and qualitative methods.
Of the 195 students, 138 (71%) indicated increased stress and anxiety due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Multiple stressors were identified that contributed to the increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depressive thoughts among students. These included fear and worry about their own health and of their loved ones (177/195, 91% reported negative impacts of the pandemic), difficulty in concentrating (173/195, 89%), disruptions to sleeping patterns (168/195, 86%), decreased social interactions due to physical distancing (167/195, 86%), and increased concerns on academic performance (159/195, 82%). To cope with stress and anxiety, participants have sought support from others and helped themselves by adopting either negative or positive coping mechanisms.
Paragraph 2 :
Due to the long-lasting pandemic situation and onerous measures such as lockdown and stay-at-home orders, the COVID-19 pandemic brings negative impacts on higher education. The findings of our study highlight the urgent need to develop interventions and preventive strategies to address the mental health of college students.
Visual Research
For references, I searched through different platforms like Pinterest and Behance.
1. 'Delusions' Poster by Manh Le
Fig. 2.x : Poster references by Manh Le on Behance First inspo I took was poster works by Manh Le that I found from Behance. His poster was very nicely design with a theme of delusional disorder which is one of many types of mental health. Word placed big in the upper side with the definition written on the corner and supported with related image, shows that the messages were delivered in a quite straightforward way. and although the poster only used black and white color with a touch of blue, it doesn't looks boring at all. What I like about this designs are the choice of the image, how he blurred the person and shows like he is having hallucinations.

Digitize progress
I decided to choose the first sketch as it is more stronger in terms of delivering the massage I wanted. So I start to collect pictures and edit it in Photoshop:
To make it easier to look and prevent too much scrolling, I collage some screenshots of the process and wrote few description on it, which we can see in below image :
