INSTRUCTIONS
PROJECT 1 : INSTRUCTABLE POSTER
For Project 1, we are to create an infographic poster for one recipe selected from Pasta Grannies. First thing I done is to search through the recipe on Pasta Grannies' channel and make a playlist where I put some recipe that I'm interested in, so that it is easier for me to look on it again one by one.
The final recipe I chose is Canaderli from Isabella's recipe. The reason why I chose this because I like the vibe Isabella's gave, her smile, her home. the simple dish she make, and of course because the recipe itself doesn't have too much list on it.
From around 11 steps, I summarized it to only 7 main steps and 1 steps for serving. But then I felt that it was still too much, so I decided to simplify it again into 4 main steps, prepare; make dough mixture; shape and cook; and lastly serve it.
For the color palette I was inspired by Isabella's house and necklace, which is in mainly brown and red for the necklace. This time I decided to go for a 'professional' kind of look with a vector style illustration and no outline for the whole poster.
Next, I began sketching some layout design and illustrations for the ingredients, which is shown below :
This step took quite a long time because It's hard to put all the information in just 1 poster.
Next, I began to start illustrating the ingredients first, then followed by illustrating the steps, and lastly the Canaderli itself
As Isabella's home was full and covered with wood/wooden texture, I made that as my main reference for the background and some other elements like the title's sign board and main steps' plate board. Basically my theme is a woody texture kind of theme.
From the video we can see that Isabella's table cloth is in a red gingham pattern, which gives me an idea to also use the same color and pattern as the final dish's table cloth.
For the title I use Ota's house as the reference and as the result I made an illustration of a banner with wooden like texture
When finalizing my design, I found out that it still lacks of things that are related to Isabella, like her hometown, Moena, as well as herself. So I decided to add some snow on the title's sign board as well as adding an illustration of Isabella herself to indicate that she's the one who made the recipe.
PROJECT 2 : ANIMATED INSTRUCTABLE POSTER
For the BG Music, I searched for a calming lo-fi song that gives that 'cooking video' and warm feeling. So then I found this playlist on Youtube that suits what I want :
Final Outcome
FEEDBACK
REFLECTION
I realized that the hardest part on creating an infographic is not only about the illustration but also how we breakdown the information to a simple, compact, and understandable one as well as how to put it into one simple poster. Other than that, thinking of a layout design also took much time because I really need to think on how to fit and arrange the illustrations and information to this one poster design. Overall this project was a good challenge and practice
