Transitions

1. Moment-to-Moment

• When something moves or changes slightly, over a very small time frame

PRACTICAL

We were tasked to create our own webtoon based on an 'Unforgettable Fight Scene'. We need to consider the 3-act structures and create interesting plot twists and action-packed scenes. It can be wordless and presented with only illustrations or it can be detailed with stories filled with speeches and texts. 

Things to note: 

Comic panel (webtoon format) - W800 pxl x H1280 pxl
Main Thumbnail size : W436 X H436 pxl
Episode Thumbnail size : W160 X H151 pxl

Ideation

My idea was to create a cute chibi-style illustration and use pastel colors as my main palette. For the references, I look up on Pinterest that are similar to the style I wanted.

Storyboard

1. Act 1
One day in a small house, Lily, a 7 years old girl sitting on her couch, feels bored. At that moment, her very best friend, Timmy called her and asked to hang out with him at the arcade game station near their home. Lily feel really excited as she was really bored before. Afterward, she go to the arcade station and met Timmy there. When they enter the station, they saw one new arcade game, called Tokkie, that looks pretty and interesting. Thus, they both try to play the new game by firstly inserting coins to the machine.

2. Act 2
After that, the choose your character screen appear and showed Mogu as the first character choice there. Lily, who loves bear and pink at the same time, immediately fall in love with Mogus's character, so she chose it. However, when Timmy wanted to choose a character, the error screen appeared, which makes them really sad. While trying to insert coins again, the screen were back, as usual, however, this time it appears white and reflects a really bright light that makes both of them can't open their eyes. After a few minutes, they open back their eyes, where the first thing they feel was they're in another place. Lily, who's confused tries to look at her surroundings and found someone on the other side of the hill. 

Both of them come to meet that 'someone' hoping that they can find a way back home. But reality says different. They meet Mogu, who's the character of the game they're trying to play before. Therefore, they both were very confused. Lily, noticed that there was a letter near them and open it. The letter indicates that they will be facing challenge(s) in Teokkie Land, the place they're now. First challenge that was given is to defeat Mogu, where if they win, prizes will be given to them.

3. Act 3

They finally defeat Mogu with the superpower from the lollipop they've taken before. Right after completing the first challenge, a cute card fall was placed in front of them

Digitization

Before doing all the digitization, I looked for suitable font and color palette to use later on. Firstly for the typeface, I'm using a cute handwritten font that I found in Dafont, which was called 'Baby Doll' font. Below is the font link:

As for the color palette, as I've mention before

Firstly I made both of my characters, Lily, and Timmy (usually called Tom) and colored them using pastels color.

Then I proceed to trace all the sketches using pen tool

To add more texture, I used the default charcoal pencil brush from Illustrator as the outline of my illustrations.

For the final thumbnail, I'm choosing the second one as it resembles and represents the stories more.

The last step of this task was to upload the final comic to the webtoon site.
